An important aspect of the New York State Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) Program will be the ability to embrace cultural competency and improve health literacy across the Performing Provider System (PPS) network. Each PPS must demonstrate cultural competence by successfully engaging Medicaid members from all backgrounds and capabilities in the design and implementation of their health care delivery system transformation. The ability of the Central New York Care Collaborative (CNYCC) to develop solutions to overcome cultural and health literacy challenges is essential in order to successfully address healthcare issues and disparities within our region.
CNYCC’s goal is to empower its partner organizations and their employees with the necessary skills to deliver more culturally competent and health literate services. The CC/HL program aims to foster organizational cultures that value and seek to identify opportunities that will provide more culturally competent and health literate services.
CNYCC will be providing a series of training information related to cultural competency and health literacy for PPS partners. Below you will find current CC/HL training resources:
CNY Care Collaborative's Cultural Competency & Health Literacy 101 Course Overview
The purpose of the CC/HL 101 Course is to provide general awareness and identify ways CNYCC partner organizations (and their employees) can deliver more culturally competent and health literate services.
The CC/HL 101 course goal is for partner organizations to demonstrate an understanding of the important role cultural diversity and health literacy play in delivering services that are responsive to the cultures, language, and literacy needs of an increasingly diverse patient population.
At the end of CNYCC’s Cultural Competency & Health Literacy 101 Course training, participants will be able to:
CNYCC Performance Activity
The CC/HL 101 course is a required performance activity for CNYCC partner organizations:
(PA_133 -- Provide "Intro to Cultural Competency/Health Literacy (CCHL)" training to at least 75% of all staff by 6/30/18.)
CNYCC contracted partner organizations are eligible to receive payment for completion of this activity as outlined above.
CNYCC Training Video: “An Introduction to Cultural Competency and Health Literacy”
CNYCC partner organizations will have access to complete the CC/HL 101 course requirement by offering a training video presentation to their employees through CNYCC’s Learning Management System (provided by Health Workforce New York - HWNY). The training module includes a 20 minute video presentation: “An Introduction to Cultural Competency and Health Literacy” and a post-test questionnaire. Additional Completion Opportunities for CC/HL 101 Course Requirements
CNYCC contracted partner organizations may complete CC/HL 101 course requirements by submitting an Attestation of Equivalent Training(s) that meet the prescribed goals and objectives of CC/HL 101 course content. Partner organizations may utilize the Attestation Document (coming soon) for submission and the Roster Template (coming soon) for employees who participated in the training.
